This final, final post is in response to the last comment posted recently asking if our issue was resolved (posted anonimously so I cannot answer the poster directly).

If you read the final post previous to this one you will see that no we never got satisfaction from Monique Worth-less and her team of lackies like Bertrand Ward. So our solution in the end was to move. We have been gone from Pierrefonds for over a year now and are very happy. We will never return to Pierrefonds and most all our friends who lived there have also moved away.

I will no longer monitor this blog. Have a great time and fight the moronic sold out politicians we have in Canada at all levels.

Hi all, sorry for not posting for so long. This will be my final post since now we do not live in the stink anymore, we MOVED in June 2007. Yes, it was 99% because of the damn stink from the landfill site on Oakwood street.

I went to the city council meeting on December 4th, 2006. It became very clear between the bullshit coming from Monique Worth and the verbal diarrhea from Bertrand Ward that these guys are worthless in the resolution of the stink issue. I was ready get in their face, but my wife suggested we avoid such negative behavior and move. So we did. We will never live in Pierrefonds again. Almost all our friends who lived there have also moved.

So this is goodbye to all, particularly to Monique Worth (less) and Bertrand Ward, the two main culprits in this fiasco, other than the disrespectul jerks at the L.E.E.P.

Finally got a chance to post since the report. I apologize for not posting more often, but after a full day of work and life I find it difficult to post in a relatively polite manner given the pathetic stink situation. It's sad when the victims must conduct themselves in a more civil manner than the elected politicians who do not give a damn about their constituants.

I thank Todd van der Heyden and the whole team at "On Your Side" for a great report. I particularly liked the helicopter "going over their heads". I would also like to thank Monique Worth and Gilles Mousseau for looking like the real idiots I believe they are in this matter, and for both admitting publicly that the landfill causes odours which decrease the quality of life in the neighborhood. The full transcript of the report can be found here on the CTV web site. I also kept a digital copy of the report which is now also backed up for my amusement, I will be sure to show it to all our friends and family when they visit. Thank you also for displaying the address of our little stink blog so prominently. Very strange that Todd had to get airborne to see the landfill, what might Mousseau have to hide... I wonder.

My only comments regarding the report is that it leaves the impression that these idiots actually will resolve the situation in the relatively near future and it did not address compensation for the last 2 years if hell we have been living in the area of the landfill. Maybe an opportunity for a follow up report in the future.

I will be writing to the mentioned idiots as a follow up shortly. I was also planning to show up at the "special" session of the burrough council at 16:00 on Monday November 20th. I was in contact with Suzanne Corbeil today and it seems that meeting will basically aprove a "special" tax to cover the fiscal shortcoming dating back to 2005. I'm puzzled since Monique Worth issued a public notice (here) where the burrough had a surplus for fiscal 2005 thanks mainly to the infamous L.E.E.P. It's weird, it bascically seems like we're screwed. I just might still show up and ask a few "choice" questions. I am definitely planning to attend the council meeting of Decemeber 4th and I invite all to come with me to ask the council idiots about compensation for the pathetic past 2 years relating to the stink infiltrating our homes.

In one e-mail exchange I had with Monique Worth, she mentioned that she felt "beyond reproach" because they consulted with "experts". I would like to meet these moronic experts who seem to not know that the landfill would create foul odors for the neighbors and that gas wells would help. Gee, some experts. Beyond that, some wonderful politicians who claim to be "beyond reproach" based on the opinions of such high class "experts". These politicians must go at the next elections.

Well that is my rant for tonight. I hope I managed to remain relatively polite. I will try to post more often, especially that we must protest this pathetic situation, possibly with a tax revolt in the area. By the way, I have still received no response to my last e-mail message sent to Monique Worth, Gilles Mousseau and Gerald Tremblay. How strange...

I just found out that CTV's Todd van der Heyden's report about the infamous Pierrefonds landfill will air on CFCF (Channel 12 in Montreal) tomorrow, Wednesday November 8th, on the 6:00PM CTV news show.

The infamous mayor of the burrough, Monique Worth, the landfill owner Gilles Mousseau and a few residents were interviewed. We were out of town at the time, but this blog may be mentioned.

Tell your friends and family. Some larger media coverage of this pathetic stinky situation.

By the way, I have had absolutely no response to my last message. They really respect us residents who live with the stink and pay our taxes in full.

Well, just after I posted that the report will air tomorrow on CFCF, IT STINKS AGAIN!

These twits at the city and the L.E.E.P., particularly Monique Worth and Gilles Mousseau are really useless and disrespectful of us poor idiot citizens. I am also certain that the lovely politicians will raise our taxes for 2007. I'm waiting for Worth, she better come up with some compensation.

When I spoke in 2005 with Bertrand Ward about compensation, his lame excuse was that it would be compilcated to figure out who gets compensated. WOW! What a moronic answer. Because something is difficult, they'll keep the money. How convenient. If humanity had always lived this way we would still live in caves and not have fire yet. So much for large brains and opposable thumbs! I think politicians lose the first one once elected, at least in Montreal.

Well Mr. Gilles Mousseau, the head of the L.E.E.P. sent a silly little brochure in the mail entitled "For a permanent resolution to the problem of odours emanating from the Oakwood Street landfill". What a crock. He claims that actions are being taken now, how come now? Why not since the site first started as a landfill? The problem of odours emanating from landfills was only discovered since 2004? Give me a break.

To top it all off our roll evaluation for our property has gone up 46%, can you spell tax grab? Beyond the fact that Gerald Tremblay and his cronies, in this case Monique Worth and Bertrand Ward, continue to allow or even encourage the stink in our area, when are these magical economies of scale going to show up? Wasn't that one of the main arguments for the damn forced mergers? As usual we're being taken for a ride by the politicians.

I also signed the petition against the name change for Avenue du Parc that Tremblay is trying to shove down citizens' throat, if for nothing else than to thwart the plans of this disrespectful administration.

Anyway, I'm ranting yet again, so without further ado, here is the latest message I sent to the illustrious Gilles Mousseau and Monique Worth:

Bonjour monsieur Mousseau & madame Worth,

M Mousseau, merci pour le joli petit cahier que vous nous avez
envoyé. Il comprend de belles photos, mais c'est dommage pour le
contenu. La semaine dernière l'air était infecte à l'extérieur
de notre demeure et de nouveau hier soir. Quel bonheur, nous
avons eu droit à une semaine sans odeur à notre demeure. Votre
incompétence à régler le problème depuis 2000 est flagrante. Le
H2S était présent avant le feu à la fin de 2004. Le H2S est une
conséquence bien connue des sites d'enfouissement depuis bien
avant 1999. Vous le saviez lorsque vous vous êtes lancé dans
cette affaire. C'est seulement après le feu de la fin de 2004
que vous avez mis les mesures d'urgences en place et seulement
maintenant (automne 2006) que vous promettez les capteurs de
biogaz. Ne pensez vous pas que ce genre de mesures auraient dû
être mis en place dès le début de l'exploitation du site?

La L.E.E.P. a maintenant un beau nouveau petit site internet.
Vous l'avez déjà modifié. C'est étrange que vous ne souhaitez
plus la bienvenue aux investisseurs. Avez vous changer d'avis?
Avez vous seulement les intérêts de vos investisseurs à coeur?
J'espère pour eux qu'ils seront plus respectés que les voisins du
site d'enfouissement. Comment se fait il que c'est seulement
maintenant que vous envoyez ce petit cahier inutile, alors que
vous mettez les capteurs de biogaz en place? Est-ce parce que
finalement les médias s'en mêlent ou parce que vous avez des
actionnaires, ou encore parce que Rona l'Entrepôt se construit en
face du site? Toutes ces raisons sont meilleures que les
citoyens imbéciles qui habitent les environs de votre foutu trou!
J'aurai cru qu'un site qui se «situe à l'avant-garde nord
américaine en matière d'aménagement technique pour la gestion des
débris de construction et de démolition» aurait ce type de
mesures en place dès le début de ses opérations. J'ai réussi à
garder une copie de votre page d'accueil initiale où vous
souhaitez la bienvenue aux investisseurs, juste pour mes archives
et mon blog.

Dans le dernier article au sujet du site paru dans «Cités
Nouvelles» vous mentionnez vouloir élargir le décret de la
L.E.E.P. Vous me faites rire! Vous n'êtes même pas en mesure de
ne pas nous empester avec le décret actuel, et vous voulez
l'élargir? Vous êtes farfelu de penser que nous les citoyens,
accepterons le tout sans broncher. Il existe certainement une
loi qui ne permet pas d'empester le voisinage. Peut-être devront
nous vous faire arrêter?

Mme Worth, vous continuez de permettre cet état de puanteur au
sein de notre foyer. Quelle joie de vivre dans ce bel
arrondissement si bien géré. C'est d'autant plus plaisant avec
l'augmentation de l'évaluation de notre propriété de 46%.
Allez vous vraiment avoir le culot d'augmenter nos taxes 2007?
Avant de poser ce geste deux évènements DOIVENT se produire avant
la fin de 2006: que nous soyons compensé pour avoir vécu dans cet
environnement depuis six ans et que les odeurs n'arrivent plus à
notre demeure!

Jusqu'à maintenant je me suis battu seulement pour la cause de
notre demeure, mais si les deux évènements mentionnés ci-haut ne
se produisent pas je vais agrandir mon «décret». J'en suis
rendue au point de vouloir organiser, en autre, une révolte de
taxes avec l'appui de résidents. Ne soyez pas surprise de me
rencontrer aux réunions du conseil d'administration.

Je suis convaincu que le fait que vous avouez ouvertement que
c'est grâce à la L.E.E.P. que l'arrondissement a un surplus pour
2005 n'affecte d'aucune façon votre inaction dans ce présent
dossier. On ne doit pas parler de corruption, mais avouez que
c'est louche et que cela démontre un manque d'intérêt à régler ce
problème pour vos citoyens subissant le tout. J'espère que
l'effort de «gymnastique» requis pour le budget 2007 tel que
mentionné dans l'article du journal «The Chronicle» ne veut pas
dire une augmentation de nos taxes. Les taxes devraient être
baissées pour les résidents qui endurent encore la puanteur. Si
vous aviez du cran et de la décence, nos taxes de 2007 devraient
être nulle. Ça ne serait à peine juste pour l'enfer que nous
avons vécu particulièrement les deux dernières années. Pensez y
bien en élaborant votre budget.

M Mousseau, je n'ai aucune confiance en votre capacité de fournir
«la résolution permanente du problème des odeurs émanant du site
d'enfouissement de la rue Oakwood». Vous êtes sans objet et
incompétent dans cette situation.

Je vais continuer mes démarches et mes recherches afin de trouver
s'il y a un lien quelconque entre les actionnaires de la L.E.E.P.
et qui que ce soit à la ville. Le manque d'initiative, de cran
et de décence dont vous, M. Mousseau et vous Mme Worth, avez
faites preuve jusqu'à maintenant face aux citoyens subissant ces
odeurs nauséabondes démontre bien votre «Je m'en foutisme» et
surtout que vous n'êtes pas les leaders ayant vraiment les
intérêts de citoyens de Pierrefonds à coeur. Quelqu'un doit
mettre fin à votre règne d'indifférence et d'incompétence face à
cette situation. Mon seuil de tolérance est de loin dépassé et
la situation se doit d'être résolue.

Today was a bad day stink wise...

Last week we met with a local reporter who was doing an article on bio gazes. The article was published in "Cité Nouvelles" on Sunday (Oct. 01, 2006).

The one thing that she said during the interview, which hit home for me, was that she could feel our tension about this situation. When she said that it was almost as if she had voiced what I've been feeling for a while about this whole stinky mess.

Stinky return from vacation

We were away for one week on vacation nearby in the White Mountains. That was nice refreshging mountain air. The return home from vacation is always bittersweet, however in this case it was outright stinky. We knew from only our sense of smell that we were HOME. The stink was such a pleasant reminder that we had arrived at our destination.

Today, Monday August 28th, was even worse. When I got home from work (that's what people who can afford to pay the damn taxes do!), it stank around our home. Later we noticed that the disgusting smell was even getting in our house despite the closed doors and windows. I stuck my nose out the front door at 9:55 PM and 11:15 PM and each time I felt like puking. Yeah, puking from the smell coming from the L.E.E.P. landfill.

Marc Michot, director of the L.E.E.P., can be an ass and stink up our neighborhood, up to a point. But what really gets my goat is the f...ing elected officials who continue to allow this to happen. They are quite Worth-less, hahaha, I slay myself. I have to make jokes about the stupid situation to keep my sanity. They really take us for idiots. No compensation for the past, current or future stink and no balls to shut down the landfill operations.

By the people, for the people...

What great words which have absolutely nothing to do with Montreal politicians, particularly in the Pierrefonds-Roxboro burrough.

grant. I have been in contact with the media you mentioned, please keep me informed about further developments. I will post here. We have to stick it to these idiots, the ones who create the stink and the ones who allow the stink to continue while joyfully collecting our taxes in full and on time.

For all our readers who have asked us if there is any "movement", well there seems to be following my last message to the politicians and my latest post. Within a working day I got mail!. I got a very rapid response from the burrough mayor Ms. Monique Worth. It is a typical politician's answer. I quote it below as well as my latest response to her message. And it seems that there will be more action soon (see grant's comment to my previous post here).

Here is Ms. Worth's response:

J'ai pris connaissance de votre courriel. Comme nous l'avons toujours
fait dans le passé, nous prenons note des détails de votre plainte
concernant la soirée du 17 août et nous acheminons le tout aux experts
travaillant sur ce dossier.

Aussi, au nom du conseil d'arrondissement je vous assure que nous n'avons
rien à nous reprocher dans ce dossier. Nous avons agi avec diligence et
nous avons pris les moyens à notre disposition pour minimiser l'impact des
opérations du site d'enfouissement de matériaux secs sur les citoyens du
secteur. Nous faisons appel à de nombreux experts, à tous les paliers de
gouvernement et avons tourjours agi de bonne foi. C'est pourquoi, les
allégations contenues dans votre courriel, sont totalement erronnées et
sans fondement.

Pour ce qui est de vos inquiétudes concernant l'eau qui est livrée à votre
domicile par l'usine de filtration de Pierrefonds, nous demanderons à nos
services de faire une inspection et des analyses afin de vous rassurer sur
la qualité de cette eau. Je peux vous assurer toutefois que la l'eau qui
est distribuée par notre usine est reconnue pour sa qualité et j'ai nul
doute que nous pourrons vous démontrer que sa consommation ne présente
aucun risque à votre santé.

Je vous prie d'agréer, Monsieur Paar, nos plus cordiales salutations.

Madame Worth,

Merci pour votre courriel sur le sujet. Par contre je suis en
désaccord avec certains de vos propos.

Je vous cite:

C'est facile d'avoir rien à se reprocher et de prendre les moyens
à votre disposition. Je vous reproche d'avoir donc fait le
minimum acceptable et rien de plus. Les odeurs sont encore très
présentent régulièrement et vous n'avez jamais fait mention de
compensation pour les pauvres bougres qui sont encore incommodés
par ce foutu site. Est-ce une mesure à votre disposition? Si
elle ne l'est pas, vous devriez la mettre à votre disposition.
D'autre part vous continuer à permettre l'opération du site alors
que le voisinage pue. L'arrêt forcé des opérations du site
est-ce une mesure à votre disposition?

Pour ce que vous appelez mes allégations, je n'ai pas encore de
preuves concrètes pour l'achat, mais j'y travaille. Le mépris
est démontré par vos actions ou inaction, tel que de permettre la
continuité des opérations du site. L'incompétence est expliquée
au paragraphe ci-dessus. Vous et votre équipe avez démontré le
cheminement typique de politiciens élus au Québec; une inertie
suite aux élections pour faire face aux vrais problèmes. En
affaires, de tels comportements vous perdrait la plupart de vos
clients et certainement votre emploi. Tandis que dans la
situation que nous vivons votre clientèle, les citoyens, sont
légalement captifs et reçoivent des services médiocres pour le
fardeau fiscal le plus élevé en Amérique du Nord. J'en revient
toujours à mon argument du manque de valeur pour l'argent payé.

Notre eau n'avais jamais eu d'odeur marquée avant ce printemps.
C'est depuis ce printemps que cette odeur de javel est souvent
présente. Malgré le fait que vous pouvez certainement démontrer
que notre eau ne présente pas de risque pour notre santé avec les
résultats de quelques tests pointus, c'est inacceptable que l'eau
ai cette odeur.

Ni l'air et ni l'eau devraient avoir une odeur marquée. Ne pas
être nocif et être de qualité acceptable sont des critères très
éloignés l'un de l'autre. Notre air et de notre eau ne sont pas
de qualité acceptable, très loin d'être de bonne qualité.

Je vous rappelle donc que je continue mes démarches jusqu'au
moment où nous serons compensé de manière acceptable pour ce que
nous avons subi et subissons encore, et que notre air et notre
eau soient de qualité "acceptable".

Well these idiots at the city and running the landfill site have really tried my patience. It's time to get in their faces. On Thursday evening (2006.08.17) the smell was once again unbearable. It's a good thing we can seal up our house to survive. 15 more years until the hole is filled... I don't think so! I haven't posted in a while because I grew tired of getting no results. We have had some smell, mainly a bit of chemicals mixed with some H2S. Not as bad as just the H2S, but you have to wonder about the health consequences. I bike to work as often as I can and guess where my path takes me, right by the landfill site, through the stink and the disgusting mud dragged into the street by trucks (and there are many in a day) leaving the landfill site.

I have my suspicions about the purchase of at least some of our politicians. Oh wait... THAT NEVER HAPPENS! Of course not. Talking to a neighbor and to a local business owner, I have heard that one politician in particular can be swayed. No proof yet, but if they keep trying my patience like this...

Here is my last e-mail sent to the mayor of the burrough Monique Worth, the mayor of Montreal Gerald Tremblay, our dear friend the city councillor Bertrand Ward, the despicable Marc Michot running the landfill site and a reporter at the Chronicle. Let's just say I was pissed off when I wrote to them.

Subject: Patience épuisée pour les odeurs nauséabondes

Bonjour Mme Worth et M le Maire Tremblay,

De nouveau hier soir, le 17 août 2006, nous devions nous enfermer
hermétiquement dans notre maison puisque l'air dans notre
quartier était absolument irrespirable. Vous permettez à la
L.E.E.P. et M Michot de continuer à nous empoisonner tout en
facturant joyeusement nos taxes au complet et bien sûr à temps.
Les lois établies par les politiciens font en sorte que même si
nous retenons nos taxes, aucun juge ne sera impliqué dans la
cause. Après un certain temps la propriété est vendue en encan.
Dommage. Je veux qu'un juge se mêle de cette situation
intolérable. Je vous réfère au rapport du Ministère de la Santé
publique intitulée "Incendie au site d'enfouissement de matériaux
secs de Pierrefonds". Dans la conclusion Mme Beausoleil écrit
que les odeurs nauséabondes "constituent pas moins des nuisances
importantes qui peuvent affecter de façon significative la
qualité de vie des citoyens". Je vous confirme que notre qualité
de vie est effectivement affectée de façon significative. Ce
rapport a été rédigé suite au feu survenu sur le site à la fin
2004, mais ces odeurs continuent à écoeurer les voisins du site.
Vous êtes bien des escrocs dans cette situation.

C'est avec un mépris extrême que je lisais hier soir les propos
de Mme Worth dans le dernier numéro de la revue municipale de
Pierrefonds-Roxboro. "Un monde idéal... Qui n'en a pas rêvé?" Un
secteur de l'arrondissement pue et vous pensez à un monde idéal.
Mon rêve est de vivre chez moi sans odeur et avec de l'eau
potable, dans notre cas aussi bien rêver de gagnez la loterie.
Les probabilités semblent assez similaires. Voilà votre foutu
monde idéal.

Depuis quelques mois nous remarquons une odeur de javel dans
notre eau de robinet. Petite recherche rapide avec Google et on
trouve que l'ingrédient actif et "sodium hypochlorite" (les
recherches sont plus efficaces en anglais). On poursuit notre
recherche en ajoutant quelques mots clefs "h2s" et "landfill".
On trouve des articles dans lesquels on fait mention de
l'utilisation du "sodium hypochlorite" pour réduire le H2S.
Donc, pouvez vous nous expliquer si c'est le site d'enfouissement
qui empoisonne notre eau ou notre eau a été empoisonnée pour
aider le site? Nous ne buvons pas l'eau du robinet dans notre
demeure, nous avons autant de confiance en la qualité de cette
eau que dans la qualité de notre air. Voici de nouveau nos taxes
à l'oeuvre.

Je me suis poser la question, comment est-ce que M Michot et la
L.E.E.P. peuvent continuer à nous empoisonner de la sorte tandis
que nos heureux élus le permettent. J'en suis arriver à trois
possibilités:

- une incompétence profonde chez no politiciens,

- un mépris total de nos politiciens envers les citoyens,

- l'achat de nos politiciens.

La première me surprendrait car de tels incompétents auraient de
la misère à se faire élire. La deuxième seule ne pourrait pas
durer longtemps, les citoyens ne le toléreraient pas. Il me
reste donc la troisième. Je crois que la réalité est une
combinaison des trois. Si la troisième s'applique vraiment M
Michot et la L.E.E.P. en ont eu pour leur argent, la situation
ridicule et intolérable existe encore et va certainement
continuer pour les années à venir.

M Michot et la L.E.E.P. sont des crapules. Le site web de la
L.E.E.P. déclare: "Le centre de gestion intégré de débris de
construction et de démolition le plus moderne et écologique du
Québec." Si cette affirmation était vraie, nous n'aurions pas
d'odeurs nauséabonde et notre eau serait potable. Bravo. La
L.E.E.P. est un voisin modèle. Notre air et notre eau sont
empoisonnés, et la voie publique se fait salir constamment sur la
rue Oakwood.

J'ose espérer que notre petit blog de puanteur pourra contribuer
à forcer une solution à ces problèmes majeurs. Je vous invite

Lorsqu'on fait une recherche sur Google de la phrase "Bertrand
Ward", notre petit blog apparaît maintenant au 20ème rang.
Lorsqu'on donne "Pierrefonds" et "stink" on arrive au premier
rang.

Je vais continuer mes démarches, entre autre en invoquant la loi
sur l'accès à l'information jusqu'au jour où on se fait
rembourser au moins les deux dernières années de nos taxes, les
odeurs cessent et que l'eau du robinet redevienne potable.

Today was a gorgeous day, not too hot, not humid, just windy enough... we decided to brunch on our deck. Ahh the joy of summer!

WRONG!

We barely had time to eat that we got a little wift of Pierrefonds. Since it was windy we figured the winds would turn or something and take those smells with them.

WRONG AGAIN!!

We went back inside! Hubby was a little pissed off, moaning about how ridiculous the situation was... Later on in the afternoon I thought I'd sit our to read for a while, nope, stank too much. Came back in. Then came dinner time, Hubby offered to eat outside whiel the weather is still nice, he barely opened the patio door, sticked his head out and slammed the door shut!

It stank AGAIN!!!

I have a feeling that he will soon be very nasty with the City officials, he's brewing, and that's not a real good sign for whomever is on the receiving end of that brew...

As I opened our front door to get our daily mail, I was hit (literally!) with this whiff of nasty stink! It was awful! And you know what will be even worst? When the husband gets home, on his bicycle through the stench of our yukky suburban swamp, and sees the School Taxes bill that came in today! He's not going to be one Happy Pierrefond Resident, let me tell you!

Just when we were starting to think that we might be rid of the stink, well... we're not! Last Sunday we actually had our first dinner on our deck in over a year. It was a very nice and warm day and we enjoyed being able to dine out without any odours.

Last night, coming home late, I noticed the "eau de landfill". It was quite easy to smell actually. It had rained earlier during the day and it "activated" the smell bugs or something, but at around 10pm it was bad! It's a good thing that we can seal ourselves up in our home, but that's just not right either!

This morning I wanted to sit out for a while, and decided otherwise when the fetid aromas of Pierrefonds hit me. Nope! Let's have that glass of orange juice inside, where it doesn't stink!

Oh well... so much for my "hopes up"!

Decided to let you know, that knock on (whatever you may want!), it hasn't stank in our house for a while! Oh! Don't get me wrong! It still stinks, but not in our house. No, it's not us either!

During our evening walks, we often come across whiffs of the "Pierrefonds Smell", but it's nothing compare to last year... and that's a good thing that I wanted to share with you!

Could the nincompoops have done something right, and managed to fix it a little? Let's hope so!

Here we are once again, a rainy day in Pierrefonds, and guess what... It stinks. I called the phone number for the Pierrefonds-Roxboro burrough to complain. I was told that I would have to call back on Tuesday since they're only at a call center for emergencies. I guess they do not want to log the complaint calls regarding the smell. An emergency call center will definitely not do that.

It nice to defuse the situation in this way. We are upset at this moment because it stinks. It will likely not stink in 2 days when we get the permission to complain.

Below is the latest message I sent to the disrespectful, incompetent burough mayor, Monique Worth. I sent it on May 9th and to this day have not received anything back from anyone at the city, oh, except the friendly reminder that we owe almost $1200 in taxes for June 1st, 2006. But I did get the permit to install our external air conditioner at the back of our house.

The message also got published in Cité Nouvelles a local paper in the Tribune Libre section (Vol XXXII, number 19, published May 14, 2006).

So here is my message:

Subject: Ridicule de vivre à Pierrefonds

Madame Worth,

Je voulais partagé avec vous ma frustration toujours grandissante de vivre
dans ce bel arrondissement. Non seulement nous avons toujours payé nos
taxes à temps et au complet pour avoir le privilège de vivre dans la
puanteur du site d'enfouissement, mais aujourd'hui j'apprends au
département de la construction que je dois encore payer $30 pour un permis
pour installer un climatiseur externe. De plus, je ne peux pas l'installer
sur notre propriété à l'endroit le plus économique et où c'est le plus
raisonnable d'installer une telle unité, sur le côté de la maison. Une
dérogation coûterai plus de $600. C'est vraiment payant au bureau de
l'arrondissement!

J'en ai assez de me faire chier, oui chier, à vivre dans cet
arrondissement. J'ai commencé très poliment l'année dernière, mais on voit
bien que le respect des règles et la politesse ne donne aucun résultat. On
se sent agresser dans notre demeure. Nous vivons encore dans la puanteur,
donc nous devons installer un climatiseur, on doit fermer nos fenêtres, se
barricader dans notre maison. Pour ce faire on doit encore payer (en plus
de nos taxes) et nous ne pouvons pas procéder avec l'installation de la
manière la plus raisonnable sans payer un prix usurier. Si vous connaissez
l'emplacement de notre maison, l'installation à l'arrière ne changera
absolument rien envers les voisins de l'autre côté de la rue Kimber. Mais,
pour ne pas se faire écoeurer par la direction nous allons procéder à
l'installation plus coûteuse à l'arrière de notre maison pour pouvoir
s'enfermer hermétiquement dans notre maison dans ce bel arrondissement de
Pierrefonds-Roxboro.

Même les rapports du Ministère de l'environnement affirment que les
propriétaire dans le voisinage du site d'enfouissment vivent une perte de
jouissance de leur propriétés. Sans aucun doute, nous figurons parmis ces
propriétaires. Nous recevons une grande valeur pour notre argent.

I've been sitting in our office for a few hours now, and oh joy! it stinks! Every so often my nostrils have been tickled by the "Eau de Landfill" aroma... I barely remember the days when one could smell the fresh air of spring, of fresh cut grass (a neighbour did it earlier!), now I get hits of fresh air promptly followed by Pierrefonds' stink... It's not to the point where I would close the window, but still, enough for me to notice and get pissed off about it!

It's 1 o'clock in the afternoon and it stinks! Ridiculous, completely ridiculous!

It's a good thing that the wind turns, the vile odor will be blown away for a while... One can hope...

It's getting warmer and it would be nice to open our windows to get a little fresh air, except that we live in freaking STINKY Pierrefonds!

Throughout the day today I've been getting whiff of Pierrefonds' stink! This afternoon I had clothes drying on our clothesline and at some point the stink got to me so I decided to bring everything in - dry or not! Tonight, it still smells!

It's getting to be freaking ridiculous - we can't even enjoy the fresh spring air - we are being poluted by local people, which makes matters worst. If it was the other way around, the pressure to solve this issue would be so great, but it doesn't look like the current situation is getting pressure 'cause damn it! It stinks in Pierrefonds, once again!!!

Again some stink. Not so bad tonight, but any stink at this point is WAY too much.

One comment to my previous post from someone living nearby merits that I post it directly in the blog. It just reiterates the utter disregard for the citizens' well being by our idiotic disrespectful elected officials. Corruption in government, OF COURSE NOT, that can NEVER happen. Hey we're just simple citizens who pay their taxes, we're just talking here. I really sympathize my friend. Here is the comment.

While it was nice this morning, it wasn't to last... By 2:30pm, the stink was back! Permeating my entire house, even with the windows closed! What is a citizen supposed to do in a house not equipped with air ducts to install air conditionning?!!

And why should we all have to be indoors to enjoy fresh clean air anyway?

What's the point of looking forward to spring and summer if we have to stay inside all the time, just to be able to breathe normally, without wrinkling up our noses and thinking, "Ooooh! What a stink!!"?

I bought my house in 1995, and was told that the quarry was closing; that a green space would be preserved behind my house instead. You see, the old quarry is my nearest backdoor neighbour... What a terrible one!! If a smell so awful came from someone's yard, I could get the police over here to ask them to immediately put a stop to the offensive odours, but since the City is a supporter and benefactor of the smelly landfill company, the regular citizen seems powerless.

Last year, the smell was so strong some nights that it awakened me in the middle of the night, and I had my windows CLOSED at the time!! I phoned the Pierrefonds borough, Environment Quebec, and l'Environment de la Ville de Montreal MANY times, to complain about the strong odours... to no avail. Ms Worth told me that she had only had a couple other citizens call her to complain. ( I found that hard to believe...) I asked her if she was unaware of the general statistic that 1 call represents 50 others who were too timid/busy to vocally complain? She ignored that question, and just kept telling me that the smell wasn't toxic. Well, that may or may not be, but I'm not accepting her word for it. ( Ever see the reality-based movie "Erin Brochovich"??) All I know is my son's asthma has sharply increased in severity since last year, with no other reason to explain it... And even if the stink isn't toxic and killing us,it sure is irritating us! Ms Worth didn't seem to care that it was ruining quality of life in her town!

Pierrefonds is a residential place, and families should be able to enjoy simple pleasures like sleeping peacefully, going on a walk, eating al fresco in your own backyard,etc without wanting to wear a facemask! I can't believe that I actually enjoyed these things more when I lived near downtown, in NDG!!!

I REALLY miss being able to have dinner outside on my deck, or falling asleep to the sound of the breeze in the trees...

EVERY citizen unhappy and suffering due to this awful smell should call and call and CALL the government agencies involved to complain and demand cleaner air (and water) in our town! Clean air is a basic human right that should not be compromised for the sake of some city revenue!

Ms Worth excuses the landfill company and its operating policies because , in her words "without the project, we'll be left with that big open hole" (the old quarry).

Well, let me tell you, I'd rather have a big open hole, that doesn't bother anyone, than a big fat stink that won't go away for 10 years!! And I'm sure a lot of other Pierrefonds citizens feel the same way too.

Well friends, as good as it seemingly has been for the past few weeks (I still have reservations about the water smelling like chlorine or javel), it stinks in our home again tonight. It's so lovely at this time of year that we cannot open our windows to get the air circulating in our freaking home. If we try we circulate stink.

We still have always paid our taxes in full and on time. What value we get for all that money? These politicians must be related to the Liberal Party of Canada.

Now we will be buying an air conditioning unit which sits outside the house, I would bet that the damn borough twits will get in the way of having the unit sit on the side of our house. Our neighbor on that side is across the street, but that may not matter since common sense is not part of this equation.

Can you believe this? Tonight, for the first time in a VERY long time, we went out to take a walk around our neighborhood! Yes! You read correctly! The weather was nice, the wind was blowing a little AND there was NO stink! We walked for about 30 minutes and we smelled NOTHING!!! Yippee!!!

Here I am, sitting in our office, with the window open, thinking that I'll let some fresh air in, it's such a nice day, when a sent of "Pierrefonds" comes in... I must say that it is quite faint, but nonetheless there is a little aroma in the air, and I wouldn't say it's a pleasant one...
There goes my idea of enjoying some fresh spring air... I guess I'll have to change my way of thinking when it comes to "fresh sent"... This is getting really old. I really don't want to spend another spring/summer indoors because of their nasty smells!

It's one thing to put up with the smell of a smoking cigar neighbor, or the smell of a not-so-well maintenained car, but a smell from the city - that's bad! We don't live in La Tuque, so I don't expect my city to stink - I know it would be too much to ask for clean air, I JUST want it to be odorless! Is that too much to ask?

I've decided to write as well, since this is OUR blog about OUR stinky city!
Actually, I must say that I'm quite impress that it hasn't smelled that bad, considering that things are melting. The tulips are starting to show their leaves, and since we basically don't have any snow left on our lawn, it's quite surprising that we have had no odors... or I should say so little. Every so often, the light aroma of "Eau de Landfill" tickles our nostrils, but nothing to really complain about. Let's hope it remains that way!

On the other hand, we did notice that our water has been emanating a little smell of its own... We only use tap water to do the dishes, laundry, etc., but not to drink, and I've been noticing that when brushing my teeth, there was a smell to the water - chlorine! I've been wondering if that is to hide the other smells?!? Things that make you go "Humm"... There is no doubt, our tap water has a smell - people visiting (from out of town) even noticed it. It's a city smell! Oh the joy of living in Smelly Pierrefonds!

These disrespectful idiots at the city and the L.E.E.P. have managed to give us almost a full month without too much stink. Yesterday evening had a bit of landfill aroma, but it was not bad. I was just outside our home and WHAM! Full nostrils of beautiful, lovely STINK.

Well I would imagine it is to be expected since for the past few days spring is in full force in Montreal. It is generally a very enjoyable time of year, and yet this year once again somehow tarnished by our lovely smell.

In the article Mr. Ward mentions that they are working hard at solving the problem, but friends, it's a committee, it's political. I anticipate a lot of lovely "eau de landfill" stink come spring and I have no intention of tolerating this stink any longer. The problem has existed for five years.

Well friends, I just got home from a long day of work so I can earn the money to pay, among other things, our municipal taxes (half due on March 1st) and I was greeted the lovely "eau de landfill" aroma in my own driveway. Such a great smell to come home to.

So far I have received only 3 responses to my message, one counselor was on vacation, 2 weeks before the first tax payment is due, that my message has be forwarded to the appropriate people at the municipal and provincial levels, and a response from the Ombudsman stating that she only steps in as a last recourse and that I am currently in contact with the city officials regarding the problem. I have a feeling that this is politicians protecting politicians. I thought that I stated that the problem has been going on for FIVE YEARS, how long would it have to take for some public official to act appropriately.

They claim to be doing something which will be ready in September 2006. OH JOY, we can look forward to another summer of stink in Pierrefonds. No walks, no meals on our deck, nice aromas while cycling in our area...

Finally had the time to bring you the last e-mail complaint I sent to the mayors of the burough, of Montreal, some of the burough counselors, the Montreal Ombudsman and a couple of local reporters. Here it is, of course in French:

Bonjour,

Je me trouve de nouveau dans une situation que je considère
absurde envers l'arrondissement, maintenant de
Pierrefonds-Roxboro. Les odeurs nauséabondes autour et à
l'intérieure de notre demeure continuent de nous empoisonner
l'existence. Du moment qu'on sort de notre demeure nous sommes
agressé par la bonne odeur du fameux site d'enfouissement. Le
premier février fut une journée de puanteur exceptionnelle.

Je suis déjà convaincu de l'incompétence des officiers de la
ville et de la direction de la L.E.E.P. pour résoudre le
problème. Ça fait depuis l'an 2000 que les odeurs existent,
malgré le fait que c'est depuis deux ans que cela est vraiment
devenu intolérable. Cette situation continue, mon épouse et moi
sommes souvent bénéficiaires de ces arômes lors de notre retour à
la maison en passant sur le boulevard St-Charles. Si nous sommes
chanceux l'odeur ne sera pas présente à notre arrivée.

Depuis que mon seuil de tolérance a été dépassé et que je me
plaint à ce sujet, mon argument principal a toujours été que nous
payons nos taxes au complet et à temps, mais nous ne recevons pas
toute la valeur pour notre argent. Nous ne pouvons pas jouir
complètement de notre propriété, par exemple on ne peut pas
manger dehors l'été, en raison de l'odeur on y perd l'appétit.
En fait nous n'avons pas manger dehors du tout pendant l'été
2005. Nous ne pouvons pas bénéficier pleinement de notre
quartier, par exemple on ne veut pas prendre de marche à
n'importe quelle saison. Alors imaginez notre surprise lors de
la réception du compte de taxes municipales pour 2006, elles ont
augmenté et on se fait encore empoisonner. C'est quand même
incroyable d'avoir un tel culot et un tel manque de considération
pour les citoyens. Oui, je lis les rapports, les communiqués et
les articles dans les journaux locaux, néanmoins Pierrefonds pue!
Tel qu'indiqué ci-haut, je n'ai plus aucune confiance en la
capacité des dirigeants de la ville pour résoudre ce problème.
La L.E.E.P. ne fera certainement rien sans menaces d'un
gouvernent ou un autre car elle doit dépenser. Combien de temps
pensez-vous que ça prendrai si je creuse un trou sur mon terrain,
je commence à y jeter mes ordures, que ça incommodent mes voisins
et que je sois contraint de rétablir la situation? Certainement
pas plus de 5 ans.

Je crois aussi que cette puanteur persistante contrevient aux
dispositions de certains articles de la Charte Montréalaise des
Droits et Responsabilités, en vigueur depuis le premier janvier
2006. L'article 3, je cite:

"Le respect, la justice et l'équité sont des valeurs desquelles
découle une volonté collective de renforcer et de consolider
Montréal en tant que ville démocratique, solidaire et inclusive."

Je trouve que nos droits de respect et justice ne sont pas
rencontrés dans le contexte de respirer cet air nauséabond
continuellement.

L'article 11, je cite:

"Les loisirs, l'activité physique et le sport sont des
composantes de la qualité de vie qui contribuent au développement
global des personnes ainsi qu'à l'intégration culturelle et
sociale."

Maintes recherches ont comme conclusion que la marche est l'une
des meilleures activités physiques. On ne peut pas pratiquer
cette activité dans notre quartier à cause de l'air nauséabond,
on a plutôt une envie de vomir.

L'article 14, je cite:

"Chaque citoyenne et chaque citoyen de la ville de Montréal a le
devoir de ne pas porter atteinte aux droits des autres."

Je crois que les dirigeants de la ville, la L.E.E.P., ainsi que
Monsieur Gilles Mousseau contreviennent à nos droits d'air
respirable et sans odeur. Est-ce que les personnes citées ne
sont pas des citoyens de Montréal?

L'article 24, paragraphe c), je cite:

"favoriser l'amélioration constante de la qualité de l'air, des
eaux riveraines et des sols de la ville;".

Depuis 2000 nous vivons une détérioration constante de la qualité
de l'air à Pierrefonds.

Étant donné ce manque de respect de la Charte, j'ai inclus
l'ombudsman de la ville sur la liste de distribution de ce
message. Je me suis aussi permis d'inclure des journalistes
locaux.

Ce manque de respect ne se traduit évidemment pas par une
réduction des taxes pour les pauvres bougres de citoyens qui
vivent au sein de cette odeur pestilentielle, au contraire
nous devons payer plus cher pour notre air nauséabond.

Well, once again, yesterday afternoon when we left our home to run some errands, we were hit by the "delighful" aroma of stinky Pierrefonds as we opended our front door. And again, later that day, when we came out of the video rental store on St-Charles near Oakwood.

I can see that those raised taxes are going to do a lot of good.

Well my friends, it is once again a very stinky night. Not only does it smell intolerable outside, but that stink has once again infiltrated our home. I can't help but wonder that this stink in Pierrefonds is not good for our health. The MinistÃ¨re de l'Environnement claims that it is not and government agencies at any level NEVER LIE to their citizens, do they?

I believe that this unbearable stink in Pierrefonds contradicts the Montreal Charter of Rights and Responsibilities. As per article 3 "Respect, justice and equity are values that give rise to a collective desire to enrich Montreal's position as a democratic, united and inclusive city", I believe that my right to respect and justice have been transgressed with the almost perpetual stink around our home. As per article 11 "Recreation, physical activities and sports are aspects of the quality of life that contribute to comprehensive personal development and to cultural and social integration", the lovely AROMA of the neighborhood actually discourages any physical activity outdoors and thus diminishes the quality of life physical activities could bring. How many studies have show that one of the best exercises is to walk, well that is not an option when it stinks in Pierrefonds.

Someone at the LEEP must be getting rich somehow. They manage a nice big smelly hole in the ground.

If any citizen, for instance myself, were to dig a hole on their property and cause it to stink so that the entire neighborhood would be disturbed, how fast do you think public officials would have imposed fines and managed to get the problem under control? Now why is it that the landfill site can disturb so many citizens for over 5 years. You be the judge.

On 2006.02.01 the stink was once again unbearable. We could not go outside or even have our door open for very long. This was very close to the day we got our tax bill, on which our lovely politician, Mrs. Monique Worth and the city councilor Mr. Bertrand Ward, have a lot of gall. Not only does it just plain stink, they increased our taxes. Of course we have no choice but to pay on time otherwise the law is on the side of these incompetent public officials and we will be charged interest.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! I have been arguing with city hall for the past year about this problem, which has existed since 2000. I have been making the argument that I am not getting the full value of my tax dollars. To no avail. I will be posting my long e-mail exchanges with the city so everyone can judge the city officials' incompetence and disregard for the citizens' well being for themselves.
